Man accused of White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting pleads not guilty

(NBC, KYMA) - The man accused of trying to kill President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner pleaded not guilty to all charges against him Monday.

31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen entered his plea at a federal court hearing in Washington, D.C.

Speaking on behalf of Allen, federal public defender Tezira Abe said her client "pleads not guilty to all four counts as charged."

Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Jones advised the court they expect to begin providing discovery material to the defense by the end of this week.

U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden asked Allen's team about their motion to disqualify U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche from the case, given their proximity to the alleged crime at the Washington Hilton.

Federal public defender Eugene Ohm said they'll likely be asking for the "entire office" of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia to be recused because of Pirro's apparent involvement in this case in a "supervisory role."

Ohm also said some of the evidence they'll be getting from the government later this week will further inform that decision.

McFadden seemed skeptical of this idea, but did set a further briefing and hearing schedule.

Allen's next hearing is scheduled for June 29.
