White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter no longer on suicide watch

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - New development are emerging in the case of the man accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump.

Defense attorneys for Cole Tomas Allen say he is no longer being held under suicide precautions at a Washington, D.C. jail.

A court filing indicates those restrictions have now been lifted, prompting attorneys to withdraw a prior motion challenging the conditions and cancel a scheduled hearing.

Lawyers had argued the measures were unnecessary and violated his constitutional rights, stating he showed no signs of being suicidal.

Allen had previously been held under strict conditions, including time in a padded cell with constant monitoring and limited movement.

Allen is accused of carrying multiple weapons when he ran through a security checkpoint at a hotel housing the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner.

The case remains ongoing.
