Police in upstate New York rescue dog from Seneca River

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. (CBS, KYMA) - Police in Upstate New York pulled a dog from the middle of the Seneca River in a daring helicopter rescue Monday.

Onondaga County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) said the goldendoodle was struggling to stay afloat in the middle of the river.

The person who called 911 wanted to jump in after the dog, but callers advised him not to, according to police.

"Due to the dog's condition, the decision was made to perform a skid rescue," OCSO wrote. "A flight crew member successfully pulled the dog from the river into the helicopter. The dog appeared to be extremely cold as it was continuously shivering."

The dog was taken to nearby ball field where Baldwinsville Fire Department officials were waiting with blankets.
