Baby monkey abandoned by mother makes friends

(CBS, KYMA) - Punch, a baby macaque who has won hearts around the world, was captured on video hugging an older monkey amid concerns he was struggling to fit in with the wider monkey population at a zoo in Japan.

Footage posted by Instagram user @suemi0821 shows Punch embracing the older animal, and then taking a nap with his beloved stuffed toy, that was provided as a "surrogate mother" after he was abandoned after birth at Ichikawa City Zoo.

"My main attraction was Punch," the Instagram user wrote. "He was abandoned by his parents, but he's working hard to integrate into monkey society."

"I'm glad he seems to have made some friends recently. He was with his orangutan stuffed toy from his childhood today too," she continued.
