Oregon Zoo welcomes Kallik the Polar Bear

PORTLAND, Ore. (CBS, KYMA) - A three-year-old polar bear named Kallik made his first splash at the Oregon Zoo last Friday, after moving to Portland from St. Louis.

Footage released by the Oregon Zoo shows Kallik exploring his new habitat for the first time.

Kallik was born on November 11, 2022, at the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium in Ohio. He was moved to the St. Louis Zoo in Missouri with his twin brother, Kallu, in 2025.

"Kallik is making himself right at home," said Kelly Gomez, who oversees the Oregon Zoo's polar bear area. "He ventured out to explore, dove into both of his chilled saltwater pools, and enjoyed some treats."

The zoo said that Kallik, who weighs 700 pounds, is considered a subadult and is expected to grow much larger as he matures.

"We're looking forward to introducing such a young, energetic bear to zoo visitors," said Gomez.
