SC man defies the odds by being a personal trainer
GREENVILLE, S.C. (NBC) - A South Carolina man is defying the odds at 80-years-old by becoming a personal trainer to help others.
Harry King is not letting his age get in the way of setting new goals and helping others achieve theirs.
"I'm 80. I get away with doing light stuff."
More about Harry
If you happen to pop in to Planet Fitness on Woodruff Road…
"80 is just a number right? You let it be what you want to let it be? I've never let age be a defining factor of who I am."
Harry, retired from an insurance company back in 1995, started a business coaching firm in 2000.
However, he has always had a passion for stepping into new endeavors.
"I've always tried to do something special in a fifth year, so 75 I hiked across the state on the Palmetto Trail."
"Now Hiring"
Fast forward five years later.
Following a routine workout, harry noticed a "Now Hiring" sign for a personal trainer position here.
And he figured age ain't nothing but a number.
"What can this old guy do for me? Ya know. But once I get a chance to work with folks they see that I can help them with their fitness journey."
He also says you're never too old to push your way through achieving new goals.
"What's her T-Shirt say? 'Divas don't stop when we're tired. We stop when we're done.' My purpose in life is to help people be better. Be more successful in whatever their endeavor is. And if I can have an impact on somebody and their journey in life, in business, in their fitness journey, boy that's a home run for me."
