NEW YORK CITY, New York (KYMA, KECY) Saturday March 21, the world celebrates those born with down syndrome and recognizing the important role they play in society.

Down syndrome is caused by 3 copies of the 21st chromosome and March 21, helps raise awareness.

The United Nation officially observed "World Down Syndrome Day" in 2012.
