Several manufacturing plants in San Luis, Mexico close

SAN LUIS, Mexico (KYMA) - Several manufacturing plants in San Luis, Mexico have closed, impacting the area's economy and hurting hundreds of people.

San Luis, Mexico has lost thousands of formal jobs in recent months following the closure of three plants.

A fourth one announced it's going to start operating at only 50% capacity.

Jose Enrique Carrasco Encinas, President of Coparmex, a business center in San Luis, Mexico, said attracting new investment is critical.

"It could be a local and state level problem that we do not have a strong economic development promotion program where the city government and the private sector can work together, so that, as a city, we can attract those new companies that want to come to Mexico," Encinas remarked.

It's estimated that about 1,000 jobs are being lost in San Luis, Mexico every month.
