YFD to Walmart: ‘They came through when we needed it most’

Yuma Fire Department

Walmart continues to support local first responders by way of PPE donations

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Walmart is much more than great deals, the super-retailer is one of the Desert Southwest's biggest employers but they're more than just a business, they're part of the Yuma community.

On Wednesday, April 13, the Walmart on Pacific Avenue donated 4800 N95 masks to the Yuma Fire Department.

According to Mike Erfert with the Yuma Fire Department, businesses like Walmart have been instrumental in equipping their teams with PPE. Erfert says that on a normal basis YFD uses about 200-masks a week.

At the height of the pandemic YFD personnel were using more than 600-masks in a week. Erfert says that when PPE supplies ran dry, stores like Walmart stepped in to make sure our local first responders did not go without.

Erfert says that donations like this allow departments to use tax dollars in other places. The Yuma Fire Department wants to thank the staff at Walmart (store #1474) for their commitment to the Yuma community.
