Martha Garcia says ‘Somerton, likes to have fun’
Garcia is a committee member with the Somerton Corn Festival and is gearing up for the big event
SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It's been a dream of the City of Somerton for decades. The small rural farming community has been planning for a new high school for years.
The road to bringing that dream to fruition has been a long one and each day they come closer and closer to making that dream a reality.
But, before the pitter-patter of adolescents hit the halls of Somerton High School the community will need money. What can only be described as a super-booster club has been created by both residents and community leaders of the City of Somerton.
One of the group's biggest fundraisers is its annual Corn festival which is in its seventh year. Sadly, the event was postponed during 2020 because of the global pandemic.
On November 6, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Somerton's Main Street the Corn Festival will once again draw crowds to the East County community.
It's obvious that corn will be on the menu, but, you'll also find a lot of your favorite foods to compliment the corn. As for entertainment, the committee has a long list of acts and bands including Grammy-award-winning musical group Los Humildes.
From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. festival-goers will be able to check out a car show hosted by Mi Vida Car Club. For more details on the Corn Festival, you can visit the committee or the City of Somerton's social media pages.
