A local artist uses her gift to give flare to the holidays

Rebecca Bravo is a teachers whose artwork has caught the attention of decoration fanatics

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - For many the month of October is a time to express their individuality and their love for the season. Whether it's something cute and simple like a smiling jack-o-lantern or something edgier like a makeshift crime scene, the fact of the matter, Halloween is coming.

So, for those Halloween fanatics searching for that one decoration that will separate them from their neighbors, we introduce you to Rebecca Bravo. Bravo is a homegrown artist who up until now has kept her gift in the classroom.

Bravo credits her love of art to her older brother Joel, who used to take her with him to job sites. Joel Flores painted greetings on windows and he would bring his little sister along and teach her to paint.

But, it took the loss of her beloved father to awaken her inner painter. Bravo says that she was looking for comfort when she picked up a paintbrush and escaped.

Her brother's home is basically an art gallery, displaying their artwork. In the living room, a massive Felix the Cat painted on the main wall commands your attention. In the dining room, a scene from Beauty and the Beast, paired with the enchanted rose.

But, the artwork that has caught the attention of decorators was a simple welcome sign with the grinch painted on it. That sign was purchased by a friend, who then placed it outside her home.

That wooden plank sparked interest like a tidal wave and since then Bravo has created a variety of versions which include Jack Skellington, Halloween's Michael Myers, and other famed horror characters.

Her talents extend past decorations, she has been commissioned to paint portraits, many of which are of people who have passed away.

Bravo tells us that her masterpiece lies in each of her students, inspiring them to express themselves through art, is her greatest gift.
