Humane Society encourages teens to serve as animal advocates
Opportunity includes five week-long sessions
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Humane Society of Yuma (HSOY) announced their 'Kids and Critters' line-up of summer camp sessions Friday evening. Teens are encouraged to sign up as Jr. Camp Counselors.
The job of these young animal advocates is to serve as role models to campers, and assist staff with tasks and camp activities. Children participating in HSOY’s Summer Camp program will spend time learning about animal welfare topics, while engaging in hands-on activities.
Though positions are volunteer oriented, there is a $15 registration fee. Hours are from 12-5 p.m., with 5 sessions to choose from:
- Week 1 (06/07/2021 - 06/11/2021)
- Responsible Pet Ownership
- 9 through 11-year-olds will learn the basics of becoming a responsible pet owner.
- Week 2 (06/14/2021 - 06/18/2021)
- Marketing and Animal Welfare at HSOY
- 9 through 11-year-olds will experience hands-on marketing and production skills.
- Week 3 (06/21/2021 - 06/25/2021)
- Animal Heroes
- 11 through 13-year-olds will learn how different agencies help homeless pets within the community.
- Week 4 (06/28/2021 - 07/02/2021)
- All Things Animals
- 9 through 11-year-olds will prepare participants for an animal-based career.
- Week 5 (07/12/2021 - 07/16/2021)
- Veterinary Science
- 13 through 15-year-olds will experience hands-on activities within the veterinary clinic.

HSOY is also hosting a Fore! Paws Golf Scatter Tournament scheduled for Saturday, June 5. The tournament starts at 8 a.m., and will be held at either the Desert Hills Golf Course, or Mesa del Sol Golf Club.
A group of four golfers may compete together, costing $100 for each player. Costs include skins and mulligans.
