Somerton man dies from injuries suffered in crash

Deputies say elderly victim ran stop sign before tragic accident

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - An elderly Somerton man has died from the injuries he suffered during a traffic accident last week.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) says 82-year-old Samuel Sandoval passed away Saturday at a Phoenix area hospital.

YCSO says Sandoval ran the stop sign at Avenue C and Highway 95 last Thursday morning. A car traveling northbound on 95 hit his vehicle.

Paramedics took Sandoval to Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) before airlifting him to Phoenix. The driver of the second car suffered minor injuries, but refused medical treatment.
