Hollywood celebrates Dolly Parton Day with memorial butterfly release

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (CBS, KYMA) - Hollywood celebrated California's first annual Dolly Parton Day (9/25 aka 9-2-5/9 to 5, her hit movie) with a memorial butterfly release at her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Organizers released 925 butterflies at 9:25 a.m. over Dolly Parton's Hollywood Walk of Fame star, marking the newly designated state holiday honoring the singer and philanthropist.

Emma's Butterfly Ranch in Riverside provided and brought the butterflies to Hollywood.

The release took place despite the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce declining to support the event.
