Man accused of shooting at California library appears in court

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - The 18-year-old man accused of a deadly shooting at the Chico Library appeared in court Thursday.

Bradley Scott Sayer appeared in Butte County Superior Court in connection with the shooting that left two people dead and others injured.

"There's things that lead us to believe that he was a fan of Columbine. He had gone down the unfortunate rabbit hole of the internet and into chat rooms that were fan rooms for mass killers," said Mike Ramsey, Butte County District Attorney.

As Sayer entered the courtroom, he made a hand gesture commonly associated with white supremacist ideology.

Prosecutors have charged him with two counts of felony murder, along with firearm and special-circumstance enhancements that could carry additional penalties, including multiple life sentences.

Sayer did not enter a plea.

A judge granted the prosecution's request to hold him without bail, and he will remain in Butte County Jail.

Sayer is scheduled to return to court on July 16 for further arraignment and to enter a plea.
