Federal agents gather in MacArthur Park in Los Angeles

UPDATE (2:32 PM): Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass responding to dozens of federal immigration officers and National Guard troops who descended on MacArthur Park Monday.

Mayor Bass said she stopped at the park on her way to the press conference that was supposed to be about the six month anniversary of the California wildfires.

"To me, this is another example of the administration ratcheting up chaos by deploying what looked like a military operation in an American city," Bass remarked.

In remarks, Bass saying that children were attending a day camp in the park at the time and describing the incident as a "city under siege."

"There is no plan other than fear, chaos, and politics. Home Depot one day, a car wash the next, armed vehicles and what looked like mounted military units in a park the next day," Bass expressed.

It is unclear if anyone was taken into custody.

LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Federal agents gathered Monday on the streets near MacArthur Park in Los Angeles.

According to a federal defense official, the immigration enforcement operation involved about 90 members of the California National Guard.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was briefly seen at the site in a crowd of people. Bass appeared to get into a vehicle that left the area.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was taken into custody.

The agents left the area as a small crowd grew in size, with some people walking behind the armored vehicles as they moved slowly out of the neighborhood.

The law enforcement activity comes after weeks of immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles which led to protests in the downtown area.
