Tracking a cool and cloudy Saturday across the region

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - After weeks of extreme heat, temperatures are continuing to trend closer to normal across Yuma and Imperial Counties this weekend.

Yuma is expected to reach around 100°F Saturday, with partly sunny skies and light winds. Saturday night will turn mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to around 84°F.

Sunday will be slightly warmer, with Yuma climbing to about 104°F under mostly sunny skies. Winds will increase to around 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph possible.

In Imperial County, El Centro will reach around 99°F Saturday before dropping to the lower 80s overnight.

Sunday will bring increasing clouds and a high near 100°F, along with breezier conditions. Northwesterly winds could reach 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.

A plume of moisture moving into southeast California and southwest Arizona this weekend will bring a chance for a few light showers. However, much of the region is expected to remain dry, with any rainfall generally limited.

The weekend cooldown comes after a prolonged stretch of extreme heat across the region. While temperatures will begin warming again early next week, the latest forecast keeps them only slightly above normal.

Looking ahead, chances for thunderstorms are expected to increase again during the latter half of next week as more moisture returns to the region.
