San Luis leaders speak out about border crisis

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - As the border crisis unfolds, leaders in San Luis are speaking out.

Saying the migrants are taking resources away from local residents.

This after newly elected Mayor, Nieves Riedel, declared a border emergency.

We spoke with the mayor, as well as the San Luis Fire Department and San Luis Police Department about the challenges they're facing.

One of those challenges being a lack of ambulances.

And as the medical call volume to the border is high right now, those emergency medical services are being taken from the citizens of San Luis to the border.

Another problem they mentioned was migrant trespassing and an increase in crime, overwhelming local police.
