YPD arrests teacher, JV Football coach for luring a minor

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The local elementary school teacher and junior varsity football coach accused of asking for nude pictures from someone he thought was a minor is still behind bars tonight.

Both schools are speaking out, as well as concerned parents.

One local Tierra Del Sol mother, Crystal Velasquez, never thought she would hear her sixth grade daughter say her teacher, Jacob Ray Williams, was arrested.

“She’s like mom, my teacher was arrested and I was like what, because I was cleaning, I was like what do you mean, so I read the picture she showed me on her phone and I was like oh my god,” said Crystal Velasquez.

And then Velasquez began asking her child some questions.

“Did you notice anything? No, he was a good teacher mom, like we like going to class with him, she wanted that teacher actually. I’m like are you sure? Tell me anything if you saw he was acting different in any way, she was like no, no everything was good,” said Velasquez.

Velasquez says she's afraid to tell her daughter what her teacher is accused of doing, because she is so young.

And recalls meeting him.

“You know I had a parent teacher conference with him and he looked like no problems, no issues, but she was really scared though. Yesterday she was questioning me like what did he do, what did he do? I was scared to tell her, she’s a sixth grader you know?” said Velasquez.

Tierra Del Sol sent a statement to parents like Velasquez explaining what happened.

The teacher and JV football coach is accused of asking for nude pictures multiple times, from someone he thought was a minor.

Poilce say he then sent her a naked picture of himself on sunday

The Yuma Police Department says the woman was posing as a minor.

When questioned, Williams said he thought she was 17 years old, which is still under the legal age.

Williams is now on paid administrative leave from Tierra Del Sol.

The Yuma Union High School District says he is no longer an employee of the district.

Williams’s bond was set for 25-thousand dollars and he will appear back in court on Monday.
