Americans crossing border for cheaper gas prices
Mexicali, BC. (KYMA, KECY) - The United States is facing the economic impact of growing gas prices leaving American citizens and residents to cross the border to Mexicali and buy fuel—saying they save up to 50%.
Currently, gas prices in Mexicali are around 19.79 (Mex$) per liter, while in the Imperial Valley the price of fuel ranges from 5.19 dollars per gallon, that is, Mexican gas is one dollar and 40 cents cheaper than in the neighboring country.
For border families who cross daily into the U.S. or vice versa, they seek to save their pockets with Mexican gas
Others prefer to continue buying gas in the U.S., arguing that it is more profitable than Mexican.
But there are also families who prefer to commute once a week to Yuma County where gas is a dollar cheaper.
For the gas station association in Mexicali, the impact of fuel increases in the U.S. has had an effect in favor of Mexican diesel sales, since in recent weeks sales have increased by 20%.
