Search remains underway for missing teen in Yuma

News 11's Adonis Albright speaks with the family about the girl's potential whereabouts

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - After more than a week, there is still no sighting of missing 16-year-old Cassandra Landeros, leading the Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) to turn to the public for help with their investigation.

Landeros was reported missing at 10:18 the morning of April 12. News 11 spoke with the mother, whom wishes to remain anonymous. She tells us her daughter, whom she adopted at the age of 10, has recently been struggling with school. The morning of her disappearance, her room was blocked off with a large mirror in her room. The window, which is typically closed, according to the mother, was cracked open. Attempts to call Landeros' phone have been unsuccessful.

One neighbor, who didn't wish to be identified, has known the family for years. He says this kind of activity is unusual in this typically quiet neighborhood.

“This street here’s been pretty calm and pretty quiet, I’ve lived here for a long time, and yeah something like this is odd… I haven’t seen any suspicious vehicles parking in driveways or something like that, we’d call the Sheriff’s Department and have them come check them out. But nothing odd, nothing you know different from what the usual is around here.”

Cassandra is described as a 5'2" female with dark brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white tank top and blue jeans.

YCSO tells News 11 there are no developments in the case as of Monday night, but that the search remains underway. The agency is asking the public to contact them at (928) 783-4427 if you have any information. You can also dial 78-CRIME to remain anonymous. Their website is also accepting anonymous tips.
