CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY)-The Calexico Police Department (CPD) arrested a man who allegedly attempted to steal money from the Donut Shop on the corner of Paulin and Third Street Wednesday.

Video surveillance from the Donut Shop showed a man walking inside the store and jumping over the counter.

The owner of the shop said the man was trying to steal counterfeit bills that were taped to the wall and then tried making his way over to the register.

His attempted robbery turned out to be unsuccessful.

Employees at the establishment were able to apprehend the man until the police arrived.

CPD says the suspect did not have a weapon on him, but he was arrested and booked for charges on an attempted robbery.

According to the police, this part of the city is a high crime area.

The Donut Shop’s owner said this isn’t the first time this has happened.

He said he had a similar attempt at his store just weeks ago, which is why he’s invested money in security at his store.

He currently has 16 cameras at the Donut Shop that helped him stay vigilant of any oncoming threat.
