Local agency receives budget to help crime victims

A $28,530 budget increase for the Victims of Crime Act will benefit Yuma residents.

The Yuma County Board of Supervisors approved the funding during Monday’s meeting. The grant comes from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The Victims of Crime Act ( VOCA ) is a federal act established in 1984. It aims to ensure victims of crimes receive appropriate services after the defendant has been charged.

The money will provide funding for five Crime Victim Advocates in Yuma.
