Man sentenced to 10 years for deadly Christmas Eve crash

The man accused of driving under the influence on December 2018 for crashing into another car and killing the driver, was sentenced Wednesday morning to 10 years in prison.

21-year-old Brian Silva-Lopez agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter, a class two felony, under his plea agreement.

Silva-Lopez will receive credit for 184 days that he already served.

San Luis Police Department said Brian Silva-Lopez was involved in a two-vehicle collision as he was speeding in his vehicle traveling northbound on 10th Avenue when he struck a red Corvette traveling westbound on Los Alamos Street.

The driver of the red Corvette, identified as Marco Bustamante-Grimaldi, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Victim representative Jesus Grimaldi expressed, “We do not have any resentment or rancor against him, we have to no words to express what happened, our family does not hold any resentment and may God bless him as he continues with his life.”

When Honorable Judge David M. Haws asked Silva-Lopez if he has any remarks, Silva-Lopez said, “I apologize to everyone affected by this tragedy, I am glad they forgave me and I am grateful.”
