YPD: DUI detail for Cinco de Mayo
The City of Yuma Police Department will conduct an impaired driving detail on Friday, May 3, to Sunday, May 5.
Officers will be patrolling the streets to stop and arrest drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs.
YPD said DUI patrols in addition to regular patrol officers will be looking for signs of impaired drivers behind the wheel.
With help from Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the focus will be impaired driving and the apprehension of impaired drivers.
The City of YPD will also enforce traffic laws and get impaired drivers off the road, and raise public awareness about the dangers of impaired driving but more importantly to save lives in our roadways. Impaired driving is one of America’s often committed and deadliest crimes.
Officers recommend the following easy steps for a safety Cinco de Mayo.
– Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin
– Before drinking, designate a sober driver and leave your car keys at home
– If you’re impaired, use a taxi, Uber, or call a sober friend/family member
– And remember, if you know someone who wants to drive while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangments to get to where they are going safely.
