City of Imperial host grand opening for new transit center

The city of Imperial held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday morning to celebrate the opening of their new transit center.

The almost $2 million project was mostly funded through grants. It’ll include bus shelters, four loading areas, open spaces, and parking.

Mark Baza of the Imperial County Transportation Commission said the new transit center will benefit the many residents who rely on transit and aren’t able to drive.

“The people use transit in our county very much need transit services. For us to have accessible points of pick up and drop offs it’s truly important, ” Baza said.

Officials project that almost 150,000 riders will use the transit center annually.
