Immigrants to bypass Yuma-area
Hundreds of immigrants seeking asylum in the United States were released into Yuma two weeks ago, but now they will be completely bypassing our community.
Catholic Community Services was told by Immigration and Customs Enforcement that immigrants arriving in the Yuma Sector will be immediately transported to the Phoenix-area as of Thursday, according to Teresa Cavendish with Catholic Community Services.
News 11 has left a message with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to confirm this is the case.
At that time, the Yuma Refugee Ministries confirmed that they had helped close to 400 migrants.
The United States is now awaiting the arrival of the migrant caravan, but it is not expected to reach northern Mexico for a month.
However, President Trump has mentioned a possible southern border closure.
