BP Agents arrest illegal immigrant convicted of sex crime

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Ajo Station apprehended a previously deported sex offender Wednesday afternoon for re-entering the United States illegally.

Agents working in a remote area west of Why, Ariz. said they encountered three Mexican nationals illegally present in the U.S. and transported them to the Ajo Station for processing.

While processing a man identified as Alex Luna-Hernandez, 29, agents learned he was convicted in Santa Barbara, Calif. in 2015 for “Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a Child under 14”.

Luna was removed from the U.S. several year’s earlier after he was found guilty of “Assault in the Second Degree with Intent to Cause Serious Physical Injury” in Kings County, New York.

Luna is currently in federal custody pending prosecution for criminal immigration violations. The two other individuals are also being processed for immigration violations.

All individuals apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to make sure illegal immigrants with criminal histories are positively identified.
