Police arrest suspect after stabbing at local church
Police arrested a man suspected of stabbing another man in the chest at a local church.
Emilio Cervantes, 34, is suspected of stabbing a 55-year-old person in his upper chest once shortly after 5 a.m. on Thursday.
Brawley Police Department officials say witnesses pointed at Cervantes, who was sitting on a bench near the El Redentor Assembly of God in the 300 block of N. Ninth Street.
Officers say they found what may be the knife used in the stabbing in an area near the church.
Cervantes was arrested without incident.
The victim was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
