USNS Yuma has completed its acceptance trials

Acceptance trials on the ship known as the USNS Yuma is finally complete. USNS Yuma will be the eighth spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport and will be operated by the military sealift command. It will also be the fourth ship in the naval service named after Yuma, Arizona. Austal, the company responsible for the creation of the ship is a global shipbuilder that has designed and constructed over 260 vessels for over 100 operators in 50 countries. The ship was launched at Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama in September of last year. The 338-ft ship is currently providing high-speed, high-payload transport capability to fleet and combatant commanders. It also is equipped to handle everything from humanitarian assistance to disaster relief. The ship is slated for delivery to the U.S. Navy later this spring and is the eighth ship in Austal’s 12-ship contract to be valued at over $1.9 billion dollars.
