City of Somerton preps for new season of community celebrations

SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA) - The City of Somerton is getting ready for a new season of community celebrations, with 11 special events scheduled from October through July of next year.

The events will kick off October 1 with the Somerton Arts Festival. The event will include art exhibitions, hands-on activities, music, dance and family entertainment.

On October 17, the UTV Off-Road will kick off on Main Street.

The city is also looking at adding Bacanora Fest, and the Fall Festival will follow on October 29 with a Halloween theme.

"So for the Art Festival, we've changed the location...it was going to be at Centennial Park, but we've moved it to Council Avenue Park," said Stephanie Pereda, the Special Events Coordinator for the City of Somerton. "It's a larger park where we can host more activities, and we'll be incorporating a sensory-friendly area for kids with special needs."

The holiday season will begin December 3 with the lighting of Centennial Park, and the Christmas Lights Parade will then over Main Street on December 18.
