Graham Planter officially withdraws from Maine Senate race

(NBC, KYMA) - Graham Planter has officially withdrawn from the Maine Senate race yesterday. Under state law, Democrats have until July 27 to replace him in the race.

A detailed letter was shared on X today explaining his withdrawal. In the letter Planter said "More than 156,000 Mainers voted for him in search of a new kind of politics."

He wrote, "My name may have been on the ballot, but that ballot line belongs to the people of Maine. As such, please consider this notice as my official withdrawal from consideration for this office."

Maine's Secretary of State's office, who oversees elections, has confirmed receipt of Platner's withdrawal letter.

Platners withdrawal follows a new sexual assault allegation made against him by a former girlfriend.
