Chris Christie officially announces his 2024 presidential run

MANCHESTER, N.H. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is the latest Republican to throw their hat into the race for the White House.

"I guarantee that, at the end of it, you will have no doubt in your mind who I am, what I stand for, and whether I deserve it. So, that's why I came back to St. Anselm's. That's why I came back to Manchester, and that's why I came back to New Hampshire, to tell all of you that I intend to seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 2024, and I want your support," Christie declared.

Christie announced his campaign for president at a town hall event in New Hampshire.

Christie served two terms as New Jersey governor from 2010 to 2018, where he gained popularity for his response to Hurricane Sandy.

His tenure came under scrutiny during the so-called Bridgegate Case, a political scandal in 2013 involving lane closures at the George Washington Bridge.

Blunt criticism

In his remarks Tuesday in Manchester, Christie was blunt in his criticism of former President Donald Trump, who remains the republican front-runner in the polls.

"The person I'm talking about who is obsessed with the mirror, never admits a mistake, who never admits a fault and who'll always find someone else and something else to blame for whatever goes wrong, but find every reason to take credit for anything that goes right, is Donald Trump," Christie exclaimed.

Christie continued his criticism of the former president saying, "He was there for four years with a Republican Congress. He got a quarter of the wall built and Mexico hasn't given us our first peso. We paid for all of it. And only for a quarter of it. And when you watch illegal immigration pouring over our southern border, don't wonder whose fault it is. It's his."

Christie joins a field of at least eight candidates for the 2024 GOP nomination, including Trump, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Former Vice President Mike Pence formally announced his presidential bid on Wednesday.
