Former Vice President Mike Pence officially announces his 2024 presidential run

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Former Vice President Mike Pence announced in a video released Wednesday that he is running for president against his former boss, Donald Trump.

In the video, Pence said he is running because "different times call for different leadership."

There was no mention of or any images of Trump in the video, or the event which caused their split: The January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Instead, Pence cast the contest as a battle for a country that is "in trouble" under President Joe Biden and what Pence calls the radical left.

He will kick off his presidential campaign Wednesday afternoon in iowa.

The former Congressman and Indiana governor filed paperwork on monday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to make his candidacy official.
