Calexico Fire Department investigating cause of four fires
CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Calexico Fire Department is investigating the cause of four fires from Thursday afternoon.
The Calexico Fire Department confirmed at least four fires which put a strain on their resources to put out the fires.
“Multiple agencies were called to assist... we did have multiple fires going on at that time and our units had to break away from a fire... a brush fire from the westside of town to go and take care of this fire over here," said Joel Rivera from the Calexico Fire Department.
The largest fire took place at the cold storage facility, packing materials including plastic and palets caught on fire causing at least four houses to be evacuated.
“There was some damage to the adjacent houses on the east side... fences... trees... lots of smoke damage and those houses had to be evacuated... fortunately none of those houses were burned," said Rivera.
Firefighters also tell us the four fires all happened within a two hour time frame.
If you have any information on what caused these fires, please contact the Calexico Police Department.
