Yuma County BOS Chairman declares emergency due to Border Crisis

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma County Board of Supervisors Chairman Tony Reyes has declared an emergency in the unincorporated areas of Yuma due to the border crisis

The proclamation states that the emergency is to address the continuing health and humanitarian crisis at the U.S./Mexico border.

The proclamation also addresses the ongoing "tridemic," COVID-19, the Respiratory Syncytical Virus (RSV), and the flu, that the County faces.

Not only that, the County also is dealing with the increasing number of asylum seekers and migrants from Mexico.

As a result, local healthcare dealing with these issues are experiencing an abundance of stress.

While Title 42 will expire on Wednesday, December 21, the proclamation states there will be a sharp increase of asylum seekers.

This emergency declaration is a way to allow for additional flexibility and resources to address the issue.
