NBC 11 Sports: Imperial and Central roll in CIF openers

Top seed Imperial and defending CIF Division V champion Central win in straight sets to start CIF play

IMPERIAL, Calif. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - Wednesday night at Emma Lou Hansen Gym in Imperial, the top seed in the CIF SDS Division IV playoffs, the Imperial Tigers, had no trouble with 16 seed Madison, taking down the Warhawks in straight sets 25-12, 25-15 & 25-12.

Senior Outside Hitter Cheney Gomez had 12 points and 15 assists. Sophomore Outside Hitter Donna Garnica-Sanchez added 8 points and 11 assists.

Imperial will host 8 seed St. Joseph's Academy on Saturday

The #3 seed, Central defeats San Ysidro in straight sets 25-17, 25-18 & 25-13.

Katia Mejia had 17 assists, 2 aces and 11 digs. Sage Galloway added 6 assists, 1 solo block, 5 digs and 5 kills. Camila Mungia helped out with 6 assists, 4 aces and 4 digs along with Alana Ortiz's 6 kills.

Helaiana Boutwell had 7 kills and 1 solo block

Central will host #6 seed Escondido Charter on Saturday.
