NBC 11 Sports: Hawks soar past San Luis
After dropping the first two sets on the road on Thursday night, Gila Ridge comes back to stun San Luis 3-2
SAN LUIS, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - Junior Cadynce LaRose led a furious comeback for Gila Ridge, finishing with 18 kills on the night, as the Hawks came back to stun San Luis by winning the final three sets in 3-2 win at Sidewinder gym on Thursday night.
The Sidewinders won the first two sets 25-20 and 31-29. The Hawks then battled back to win the next two sets 25-11 and 25-12, forcing the fifth and deciding match which Gila Ridge also handled 15-9.
It was the third win on the season for the Hawks who are now 3-8. It also snapped a three game losing skid. San Luis now has a three game losing streak of their own after the loss. The Sidewinders also dip under .500 at 5-6 on the season.
At Rillos gym, the Kofa Lady Kings fell in four sets to Glendale 17-25, 20-25, 25-17 and 26-28. Leeza Jones had four kills for the Lady Kings and Dyannah Torres added 15 digs and five aces.
In boys golf at Desert Hills Golf Course Gila Ridge, San Luis and Desert Edge hit the links in a quad meet.
Kofa’s Eddie Smith (49), Desert Edge’s Gabriel Lynch (48) and San Luis’ Vladimir Gurrola (47) each had their teams top scores. The Hawks John McMahen and Trent Karvoski tied for the win each shooting a 39. Gila Ridge won the meet with a team score of 164. Kofa placed second at 213.
The Kings and Hawks will meet again next Tuesday and the Yuma Golf and Country Club.
