Gun-rights activists rally at Virginia Capitol
Protest ends peacefully
RICHMOND, Va. (KYMA, KECY) - Thousands of gun-rights activists from around the country rallied at the Virginia Capitol Monday.
Protestors opposed gun-control legislation planned by the state's Democratic leadership. Those plans have become a flashpoint in the national debate over gun violence.
The size of the rally, combined with the expected participation of white supremacists and fringe militia groups, raised fears that the state would see a repeat of the violence seen in Charlottesville in 2017.
The rally ended uneventfully around noon eastern time. The mood remained festive throughout.
