A local scouting troop is looking for some adventurous girls
Scoutmaster Bryan Hinton says he's excited to open this new chapter in scouting
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Troop 8051 Scoutmaster Bryan Hinton talks about growing up in scouting and watching his sister watching from the sidelines. Now a father of a girl himself he's grateful that his daughter will not share the same fate.
Since 2018 the Boy Scouts of America has transformed their Boy Scout program into Scouts BSA which now allows for girls to join. In Yuma, girls are already part of local packs but come Monday, June 13, a new troop will start recruiting.
The All-Girls troop led by Scoutmaster Hinton will recruit girls between the ages of 11 and 17. The new scouts will follow the same guidelines as their male counterparts.
Scoutmaster Hinton is excited to see the troop grow and has been a scout for most of his life, he truly understands the benefits that scouting can bring to an individual.
Hinton says that scouting is much more than just camping and merit badges although those activities are essential to building a well-rounded American. Hinton says that the scouts help build character and build one's self-esteem.
Hinton adds that the friendships made in scouting become lifelong friendships. On Monday, June 13 the Girls Troop will be hosting an Open House at Christ Lutheran Church on Engler Avenue south of 24th Street, the meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
