Holtville and Calexico meet in the CIF SDS DIII softball semifinals on Thursday

HOLTVILLE, Calif. ( KYMA, KECY-TV) - The Imperial Valley League champion will meet the Desert League champion for the right to head straight to the championship game next Saturday at the University of San Diego. Holtville defeated the Academy of our Lady of Peace 5-3 on Saturday while Calexico escaped Christian 8-5. The teams played twice during the regular season with Holtville winning in tournament play the Calexico defeating the Vikings in Holtville.

Also across the Imperial Valley, the Brawley Wildcats staved off elimination in DI. The Calipatria Hornets lost to top seed Foothills Christian 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning in Division V. Brawley and Calipatria now will need to work their way through the elimination round.

In baseball, Calipatria stays alive with a 19-7 win over Liberty Charter and Calexico's season comes to an end at San Ysidro.
