A local kindergarten class learning about leadership gets a special visit

Kindergartners at Desert View Academy learn from local leaders

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Students in Marian Carol's kindergarten class at Desert View Academy are studying our nation's leaders. They've learned about our presidents and other historical figures.

So, as the assignment came to an end Carol decided what better way to end the subject than with a special meal. On April 11, students were treated to a special visit.

Council members from the City of Yuma came to the Desert View Academy campus. After greeting each student the community leaders were treated to a presentation where the children wore costumes depicting a former leader.

The children also learned proper dinner etiquette and led the class in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem.

Councilmembers Gary Knight, Chris Morris, and Karen Watts all took part in the special lunch. Carol says that this is a perfect opportunity for the children to learn about those charged with caring for Yuma's residents.

Carol hopes that this encounter may spark a child's interest in seeking office in the future. The council members were also treated to a special presentation, the children sang a song listing all U.S. Presidents.
