White House allowing gender X on passports and more TSA inclusivity

(KYMA, KECY) - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says it's becoming more inclusive by setting up new standards for transgender, gender-nonconforming, and nonbinary air travelers.

The announcement comes on Transgender Day of Visibility.

Among the changes, the screening process will be gender neutral.

Gender identification will no longer be considered relevant for identification verification at checkpoints, but the traveler's name has to be the same on IDs and tickets.

While working on enhancements to its advanced imaging technology, screenings will be less invasive for passengers.

Meanwhile, the state department and White House announced that starting April 11, U.S. citizens can select "X" as their gender on passport applications.
