Attempted Homicide Trial
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A Yuma man was back in court this morning charged with shooting a man off of County 19th street near Somerton but he was released on Wednesday.
Yuma County Deputies say 46-year-old Abelarde Valenzuela Conde allegedly shot the victim three times, including once in the face, in the County 19 and Avenue D racing strip.
Conde was formally charged on three counts but released while he awaits his next hearing.
“They were off-roading in the side-by-side and they got in a confrontation with other fellas and that’s when the shooting happened,” Clemente Ballesteros, City of Somerton, fire inspector.
One man was injured following a fight at the County 19 dunes Sunday night.
Deputies say no one was there when they arrived.
The victim had already been taken to the somerton police department via an ATV.
City of Somerton fire inspector, Clemente Ballesteros, shares what he witnessed when the victim was brought to the station.
“Sunday evening between 8 and 8:30 a gentlemen was brought in by his friends in a side-by-side, I believe he was 32 years of age male that had been shot 3 times, one to the face, one to the hand and one to the thigh,” said Ballestero.
The victim was then taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center and is now in stable condition.
While the defendant was arrested and booked into the Yuma County detention center for attempted second degree murder.
A judge agreed to let him out of custody.
“I am going to release the defendant on his own recognizance, but I will refer him to pretrial services and comply with their conditions,” said Juan Guerrero, South County Justice Court Judge.
The defendant was released to pretrial services, on several conditions but is expected to be back in court next month.
