Cliff Diving World Series returns after 21-month break due to pandemic

Red Bull resumes sponsorship and event activities

SAINT-RAPHAËL, FRANCE (KYMA, KECY) - The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series marked its return to competition Saturday after a 21-month break.

A set of 12 men and 12 women competed from platforms as high as 88 feet.

Gary Hunt, eight-time defending men's champion, is now diving under a French flag after representing the United Kingdom last season he competed. Hunt finished in second place Saturday after a spectacular dive by wildcard Catalin Preda earned the Romanian a first place win.

Former olympic diver and Preda's countryman Constantin Popovic completed the men's podium this time around.

In the women's category, Australian Rhiannan Iflland put herself on track for a fifth consecutive title with the victory over Canada's Molly Carlson and Jessica Macaulay.
