YPD increasing officers on patrol for Cinco de Mayo weekend

The City of Yuma Police Department is conducting an impaired driving detail starting today until Saturday, May 6th. With the help of a grant from Governor’s Office, additional officers will be out on patrol through the streets of Yuma, looking for any drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs. Impaired driving is one of America’s most committed and deadliest crimes. Y.P.D will also be actively enforcing traffic laws ,raising public awareness about the dangers of impaired driving to save more lives on our roadways.

A few tips for a safe Cinco De Mayo weekend from Yuma Police Department are:

1) Plan a safe way home before heading out to festivities. (designate a sober driver, leaving your keys at home etc.)

2) If you are impaired,

-calling a taxi,

-a friend/family member,

-or using an Über or Lyft to get home can avoid an accident from happening.

If you happen to see an impaired driver on the road, don’t hesitate to call 911.
