San Luis, Mexico set to welcome its first Walmart store

SAN LUIS, Mexico (KYMA) - San Luis, Mexico is set to welcome its first Walmart as the project is expected to bring new jobs and additional commercial activity to the community.

The mayor of San Luis, Mexico said construction of the new store could begin by the end of this year.

The store will be part of a larger commercial development planned along the highway to Mexicali, next to a soft drink bottling plant.

In addition, the project represents an estimated investment of approximately $50 million, and is expected to general a total of 1,600 jobs.

"The fact that a company of this size has decided to invest here in San Luis confirms that we have a strong market, a growing population, and a strategic location that continues to be attractive for investment," said Rebecca Ching, San Luis, Mexico Council member.

Local workers will be given priority during the construction phase to keep most of the job opportunities in the community.
