KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The first season of girls flag football in Arizona continues to deliver plenty of action across the region, with several local teams taking the field Thursday night.

Gila Ridge led the way Thursday night, blanking Yuma Catholic 21-0 at Curly Culp Memorial Stadium to pick up its fourth consecutive victory. The Hawks improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Criminals drop to 3-2.

Somerton also came away with a shutout, taking down Kofa 9-0 at Irv Pallack Field. The Toros move to 2-2, while the Kings are still searching for their first win at 0-5.

Meanwhile, Vincent Memorial stayed hot with a dominant 44-0 victory over San Luis. The Scots have now won three straight, while the Sidewinders remain winless.

Switching over to boys football, Brawley is putting together a strong turnaround after a rough start to the season. The Wildcats defeated Linfield Christian 28-0 for their third straight win, improving to 3-4 after opening the year 0-4.

Brawley has now surpassed last season's win total and will have a bye before returning to action against Holtville on October 16.

In Major League Baseball, the Arizona Diamondbacks are bringing back longtime manager Torey Lovullo on a two-year contract. Lovullo is the winningest manager in franchise history with 750 victories and led Arizona to the World Series in 2023, as the Diamondbacks look to get back to the postseason after three straight seasons on the outside looking in.
