LeBron James to join Philadelphia 76ers

(NBC, KYMA) - NBA free agent LeBron James will be joining the Philadelphia 76ers for his 24th season.

The future Hall of Famer revealed on X he signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the club.

In responds to the deal, Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-Pa.) issued a proclamation that Friday, July 24, 2026 be "LeBron James Day."

"Welcome to the City of Brotherly Love, @KingJames," Gov. Shapiro wrote in a post on X.

The 41-year-old went into the open market this summer after he decided to leave the Los Angeles Lakers.

A generational talent out of Cleveland, James was the No. 1 overall pick by his hometown team in the 2003 NBA draft.

After seven seasons with the Cavaliers, James joined the Miami Heat in 2010, leading them to the NBA finals in 2011.

He won back-to-back championships with the heat in 2012 and 2013 before leaving Miami to rejoin his hometown team in 2014, winning it all in 2016.

He joined the Lakers in 2018 as a free agent, becoming the first player to win finals MVP with three different teams.

He enters his 24th season as arguably the most decorated player in basketball history.
