YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - It was a successful Saturday for Arizona and Southern California sports fans as both the San Diego Padres and Phoenix Suns made headlines.

The Padres evened their series against the Texas Rangers with a 6-3 victory in 10 innings at Globe Life Field. Manny Machado powered San Diego's offense, driving in five runs, including a go-ahead three-run homer in the 10th inning.

Jackson Merrill also delivered a key RBI single in the eighth to help force extra innings, while Walker Buehler struck out seven batters over 5 1/3 innings. Mason Miller made his return from a family emergency and recorded his 20th save of the season.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns secured one of their top offseason priorities by agreeing to a four-year, $48 million contract with point guard Collin Gillespie. The 26-year-old is coming off a breakout season in which he averaged nearly 13 points, 4.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game while starting 58 contests.

Gillespie, who went un-drafted out of Villanova in 2022, has steadily worked his way into a significant NBA role and now earns a long-term deal after becoming a key contributor in Phoenix's backcourt.

The Padres will look to win their series against Texas on Sunday, while the Suns continue shaping their roster ahead of the NBA Draft later this week and NBA free agency later this month.
